What is MPSC?

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) is a body created by the Constitution of India to select applicants for civil service jobs in the Indian state of Maharashtra according to the merits of the applicants and the rules of reservation.

Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) is a Constitutional Body established Under Article 315 of Constitution of India which provides a smooth and efficient functioning of the Government of Maharashtra by providing suitable candidates.

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) sets the eligibility criteria for the various exams conducted by it. On November 10th 2021, it was decided that MPSC candidates would get a one-year extension for appearing in the exam. This decision was taken considering the lockdown situation due to the novel coronavirus.

The MPSC conducts several exams such as

  • Maharashtra Subordinate Services Exam (Prelims and Mains)
  • Maharashtra Agriculture Services Examination
  • Maharashtra Group C Services Exam (Prelims and Mains)

MPSC State Service Exam (or MPSC Rajyaseva Exam) is held on a yearly basis to recruit for Group A and Group B vacancies in the Maharashtra administration.

The MPSC State Service Exam Pattern is:

  • Prelims – 2 papers – 400 marks
  • Mains – 6 papers – 800 marks
  • Interview – 100 marks

MPSC Eligibility

Only Indian Nationals can apply for these exams. To apply for MPSC State Service Exam, candidates must be the citizen of India, residents of Maharashtra state can get some relaxation in eligibility criteria. The residents of Maharashtra living in the state for more than 10 years are eligible for reservation. Fluency in Marathi (spoken and written) is a vital eligibility criterion to apply to these exams

MPSC Exam Age Limit

The MPSC age limit for the State Service Exam 2020 is:

  • Minimum Age (as on April 1, 2020): 19 years
  • Maximum Age (as on April 1, 2020): 38 years (General Category)

As per the rules governing the conduct of the examination, there are different relaxations in age criteria as per the category.

MPSC age limits for backward classes, ex-servicemen, qualified players and persons with disabilities are mentioned below:

  • Backward Classes Minimum Age Limit for MPSC – 19; Maximum – 43
  • Ex-Servicemen Minimum Age Limit for MPSC – 19; Maximum Age Limit for Ex-Servicemen (General Category) – 43; Maximum Age Limit for Ex-Servicemen (Backward Classes) – 48
  • Qualified players Minimum Age Limit for MPSC is 19; Maximum Age Limit for them as General Category candidates and as Backward Class candidates is 43
  • Persons with disability Minimum Age Limit for MPSC – 19; Maximum Age Limit – 45

MPSC Educational Qualification

The educational criteria for MPSC exams are:

  • Competency in Marathi
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification.
  • Candidates in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply to these exams.

MPSC Physical Measurements

A few of the MPSC posts list out physical fitness/measurements in their eligibility requirements. Posts such as Dy Superintendent of Police or related to the Transport department have specific physical eligibility criteria.

The minimum height for the post of DySP is 165 cm for male candidates and 157 cm for female candidates.
